  • "We Mean Business": Ethiopia-Sweden Forum 2025

    The "We Mean Business" Ethiopia–Sweden Business Forum 2025 took place from 12–13 November in Addis Ababa, bringing together government leaders, diplomats, business executives, and innovators committed to deepening economic ties between Ethiopia and Sweden. Over the course of two days, participants examined new opportunities for trade, investment, and long-term collaboration, laying the groundwork for a stronger and more dynamic bilateral partnership.

    The forum was organized through a strong partnership between the Embassy of Sweden in Ethiopia, the Embassy of Ethiopia in Stockholm, the Swedish East African Chamber of Commerce, and Business Sweden. This collective effort ensured a well curated and impactful program that encouraged open dialogue.

    High level participation

    The gathering brought together several distinguished guests, including H E Magnus Lennaartsson, Ambassador of Sweden to Ethiopia, H E Dag Hartelius, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Sweden, H E Dr Zeleke Temesgen, Commissioner of the Ethiopian Investment Commission, and H E Hassen Moalim, State Minister at the Ministry of Industry. Their presence highlighted the importance both countries place on building a resilient and mutually beneficial economic relationship.

    In addition to government leaders, representatives from the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce, Swedish business delegations, and various private sector actors also joined the discussions. Their contributions added practical insights based on real business experiences in both markets.

    Reach for Change and the voice of entrepreneurs

    Reach for Change took part in the forum through the leadership of Mekdim Gulilat, Country Manager for Reach for Change Ethiopia. Mekdim moderated the panel titled “We Mean Business Experiences Challenges and Opportunities”. The conversation explored what it means to do business in Ethiopia today and the opportunities emerging in a dynamic and growing economy. It also gave attention to the challenges faced by entrepreneurs who are building enterprises that aim to be both sustainable and impactful.

    Mekdim’s approach to moderation created a thoughtful and engaging space for dialogue. Her focus on the lived experiences of entrepreneurs helped amplify the visibility of Reach for Change as a Swedish international organization dedicated to supporting social innovators and change makers.

    Strengthening a long standing partnership

    Throughout the forum, discussions reflected a strong commitment from both countries to deepen economic ties and foster meaningful collaboration. The sessions highlighted opportunities for responsible investment, business development, and joint initiatives that can contribute to inclusive growth.

    There was a shared recognition that Ethiopia and Sweden have a long standing and valued relationship. The forum served as another milestone in reaffirming this connection and exploring new possibilities for cooperation.
