Breaking barriers between Swedish and newly arrived youth with Tele and Nokia

In February 2017, Reach for Change launched the campaign “Share the brief”, to challenge entreprneurs and innovative businesses to tackle some of the most pressing challenges children and youth are facing in Sweden. Telecom operator Tele2 and technology provider Nokia chose to take action on of the briefs: How can we support newly arrived youth in finding Swedish friends? Together with Reach for Change the project SHO was piloted, a real-time translation service that allows people with different languages to talk on the phone. Four pairs of friends tested the service – four Swedish youth and four newly arrived youth from Syria. Input from the participants is now helping to steer the development and the evaluation of how to use the technology so that it is able to create change on a large scale. Read more about Sho here .
