Jon Andersen has come up with the idea of Companion, a simple way for students, in need of affordable housing near their educational institutions, and alternative accommodations that could benefit from the students’ presence, to find each other.
As the urbanization tendency is constantly increasing, the conditions for students looking for affordable accommodations in commuting distance from their institutions of educations, are increasingly decreasing. Combining that knowledge with the fact that the social efforts, especially within the socially vulnerable housing areas, are in lack of both man power and innovative ideas to improve the lives, conditions and opportunities for children and youths living within the areas - and the idea to Companion was founded.
An online platform with a duality. On the one side of the platform you have the socially vulnerable housing areas (usually in a collaboration between the housing association and the municipality), or other alternative accommodations. Here they can post vacant apartments or rooms into the database, along with their conditions for the lease. On the other side of the platform you have the students who can create a profile where they can search for, and send applications to, vacant accommodations, and/or the kind of socially impactful volunteer work that fit their qualifications the best.
