Camille Anemone Larsen has created BeYou, an organized mentoring programme for children and youths living in socially vulnerable housing areas. The holistic approach of the BeYou programme ensures that the children build up and maintain a feeling of being valuable to themselves, their friends, parents, teachers and society in general.
Many children struggle with finding their own identity and discovering who they are. But often, they lack the support to maintain their self-worth and create an identity based on a strong inner core. At the same time, children today are experiencing greater pressures to fit into society, and they are being exposed to far more impressions from the outside world than ever before. These forces make it more difficult to build self-confidence and understanding.
BeYou is a structured mentoring program for children between the ages of 7-12 living in socially challenged housing areas. The program consists of conversations and activities with an appreciative approach. Through it, children expand their level of consciousness and achieve a more positive approach to pursuing their opportunities both now and in the future. This will also ensure that there is a foundation of recognition and understanding between the children and their friends, parents, schools, and society in general. Furthermore, these approaches could be adapted to other children, as shown in a pilot project involving girls between the ages of 14-19 with low self-esteem and a contemptuous self-image.
