Ulubele - The School of Humanity

Innovative program, designed to teach children Emotional Intelligence through the care for animals.

Idea in brief

Innovative program, designed to teach children Emotional Intelligence through the care for animals.

Problem

Low level of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) among children and youth in Latvia. Without having someone to take care of on the daily basis, children often lack EQ and getting older often are unable to accept responsibility of their life, be empathetic and truly love someone. They may become indifferent, can feel lonely, can conflict with parents and other persons and tend to behave cruelly towards people and animals.

Solution

“Ulubele - The School of Humanity” is an innovative program for children in different age groups, designed to teach EQ through the care for animals. It is intended to teach kids empathy, responsibility, as well as acceptance and how to control anger, frustration and anxiety. Majority of activities within the program will take place in Ulubele animal shelter and some in educational institutions. By the end of 2017, Ulubele will also be offering dog therapy for children with autism and Asperger syndrome lead by an invited specialist (dog therapist).
